Ronald C. Modra was a Sports Illustrated photographer for 23 years. He has some 70 SI covers to his credit and several of his photographs were recently selected for Sports Illustrated's 40 Best of All Time and The Century's Best Sports Photos.

Modra has contributed to many books including Baseball in America, The NBA: 50 Years and A Day in the Life of the NHL and many other publications including Time, Newsweek, National Geographic, People, Playboy, New York Magazine, Sports Afield, TV Guide, Philadelphia and Country Music Magazine. He has shot covers for some 200 publications worldwide and done commercial work for Coca-Cola, Kellogg's, Reebok, Easton and NASCAR IMAGES, to name a few. He has also shot album covers for several country music stars including Brooks & Dunn and Travis Tritt.

With his current focus on fishing and outdoor photography, Modra is a frequent contributor to outdoor publications including Saltwater Sportsman, Florida Sportsman, Sport Fishing, Gray's Sporting Journal and Field & Stream.

In 1998, Willow Creek Press published Reflections of the Game: Lives in Baseball a collection of Modra's baseball photographs and stories about players from Mickey Mantle to Barry Bonds. Many players and luminaries such as Bob Costas, contributed their own "reflections".

He has also published ten collaborative books with his wife, writer M.B. Roberts, including three 2007 releases: Lacrosse: The Player's Handbook, Crew: The Rower's Handbook (both Sterling Publishing) and Bear's Boys: Stories of 40 men whose lives were shaped by Coach Bear Bryant (Rutledge Hill Press).

Modra splits his time between Hollywood and Islamorada, Florida.
